It sounds harsh when you say it aloud, but being polite isn’t always in your best interest. When you’re in a position of buying or hiring authority, there are more than enough people around willing to waste your time, without adding to the problem yourself. Give your business correspondence and communications their proper consideration; but never feel compelled – or obligated – to immediately answer everyone who interrupts your workflow – especially when their motivation is a commission check.
