Where’d the Year Go?

Both of my sons finish their school year this week… their first since we have returned to Florida.

It feels like we just unpacked the moving van yesterday… and now my 3 year old is about to turn 4 and my 3rd grader is getting ready for the 4th grade.

I’m not one for living in the past, and it can be said that I am almost all too eager to close doors in order to open new ones.  Still, seeing my oldest son off today for his last day of school, I couldn’t help but contrast the apprehensive and homesick kid from back in August to the confident little guy kissing me goodbye this morning.

One of the things I tell my boys – often – is that every day is a fresh start.  Literally, a new day, when anything is possible and past mistakes can be put behind us so that new starts can begin.  Every day.

But, living in the day to day, it somehow gives us reduced perspective on how fleeting time is.  My wife is fond of saying “the days are long, but the years are short.”

If I want to insure that I get a good hard jab in the side, I tell my wife that my nine year old is now officially “half-raised.”

I’m looking forward to the next year.  And hoping to remember that it, too, will pass all too quickly.

Cheap Gas!… In Print!

Our Cheap Gas! iPhone application will be in a print article in the upcoming June issue of Budget Travel Magazine and in the upcoming July issue of Travel + Leisure Magazine.

I’ll let everyone know when these hit the newsstands.

One never knows how these things will turn out (favorable or not) until you see the articles in black and white.

But hey – I’m just excited to be included in the conversation.  Keeping my fingers crossed for good reviews.
